rolling, tumbling, stumbling, shooting in the dark

Synopsis:

My Brother Dave is a feature length documentary about my family, but more specifically my brother and me. Dave is my older brother, but sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. This is because Dave is autistic. This movie is a journey, but unlike any other. We will be driving across the country, exploring Dave’s aspirations of being a ghost hunter or maybe even a professional wrestler, making other stops along the way. This trip will test the strength of our relationship, and help determine whether or not I am able and willing to take care of Dave when the time comes. Marisa, our mother, is always on the forefront of our family’s anxiety. She is cursed with a chronic disease that has nearly killed her on more than one occasion. While it may not be a necessity today, tomorrow, next week, or even within the next five years, the one day will come where someone else will have to take care of Dave. Facing this inevitable conflict will be a deciding factor in the outcomes of both Dave’s and my life.

What We Need:

Any and all money that is donated will be going directly to the production and post-production of the film.

My Brother Dave is going to be a cross-country trip from Chicago to California.  The donated money will be going towards:

  • Food for the trip
  • Truck rental
  • Gas
  • Location fees
  • Equipment
    • 2 - Terabyte hard drives
    • 2 - GoPros
  • Hotel/Motel cost

The rest of the equipment will be rented from our university, DePaul.

We have also received a small grant from DePaul, so the funds donated from Indiegogo are just a portion of our projected budget.

The Importance:

According to a 2007 statistic, 1 out of 150 people are born with autism.  This means that chances are either your life, or the life of someone you know, has been effected by autism; however, not many know anything about it or the lives directly effected by it. By bringing light to the topic of autism, people would be intrigued to see how unique and crazy our lives really are. I think that people whose lives are effect autism will find this documentary very insightful and inspiring, by showing them that you can break the chain and that people with autism can lead, happy, joy-filled lives.

If You Can’t Donate:

It’s okay!  We appreciate the fact that you even came to check out what we are about.  All we ask is that you share either what you have read here, or the link to the My Brother Dave trailer, with someone you know.

We want to get the word out about what we are trying to do and any help is appreciated
